Meet our summer intern, Mack Regan! Mack is excited to join the StringCan team to learn more about digital marketing and how it is used in business. He is very adventurous and outgoing, and will be a great fit for our team.
Tell us a little about yourself! Where are you from and what’s your story?
I was born in New York and spent some time in California before my parents finally settled in Phoenix, Arizona. I went to Brophy College Prep in Phoenix and attended Marquette University my freshman year of college. The -33° winter in Milwaukee was too much to handle so I transferred to Arizona State University and felt very much at home. I play lacrosse for the Sun Devils and I'm a rising senior in the W.P. Carey School of Business studying marketing.
How would you describe your personality in 5 words or less?
Passionate – Intrepid – Bold – Curious – Quick
What could we find you doing outside of the office? What are your passions?
Outside the office, you’ll find me skiing wherever there is snow, taking my film camera with me everywhere, listening to vinyl records, and camping with my friends in the wild.
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
If I could choose anyone, I would pick my dad to be my mentor. He grew up as the fourth of six children in a poor Irish-Catholic family in Chicago and worked his way up to be a successful small business owner. He provides a priceless life for my brother, my mom, and me. He has taught me everything and raised me to be confident in who I am. He absolutely is my mentor.
If you were reincarnated as an animal/drink/ice cream flavor, what would it be?
Drink: Glass of water
Ice Cream: Rocky Road
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and what would you do?
I would backpack across Europe with a Eurail pass. I would eat, drink, and experience each place like the locals would!
You just won a million dollars! What is the most irresponsible purchase you’re going to make?
I would purchase the Aston Martin DB5 that was in the James Bond movie “Goldfinger.” Irresponsible? Sure. Looking like Sean Connery as James Bond? Worth it.
What’s your favorite YouTube video and why?
I feel a closeness with the cosmos whenever I look up at them. The sheer scale of it is astounding to me and I feel safe and good knowing that I am a part of an inconceivable space. This video sums that up for me. Every time I watch it I am reminded that no matter how chaotic life seems on Earth, the universe is unaffected and will continue on.
On a serious note, what are you most looking forward to learning from StringCan?
I am most looking forward to finding a direction for myself within the world of marketing. I love the idea of creating a brand for businesses that consumers can engage with and feel at home with. However, I have found that the world of marketing is a lot bigger than I originally thought! I am most passionate about zeroing in on the things that I am most excited about.
What will clients enjoy most about working with you?
Clients will enjoy how fun and clever I can be. A little wit always brings a smile and can spark some of the best ideas.
What do results mean to you?
To me, results are the knowledge that one gains from succeeding or failing while trying to achieve a goal. Some are favorable and some are not, but in the end they are results from which one can learn.
What is your proudest accomplishment and why?
My proudest accomplishment is having transferred from Marquette University to Arizona State University. I was mentally spent after having completed a depressing year at Marquette. When I arrived at Arizona State, I was set back nearly a year in classes and out of the loop when it came to making friends. I joined the ASU Men’s lacrosse team and took extra courses and summer school in order to get myself back on track. Today, I can proudly say I am 100% caught up in school, on track to graduate in four years, and have many close friends now at Arizona State.
