Welcome to the #StringFam, Nicole Rucker! Nicole is an eager ASU student that wants to learn how to apply her marketing knowledge that she gained in school to the real world. She is adventurous and her willingness to try new things will make her a great addition to the StringCan team. To learn more about her, check out her interview below!
Tell us a little about yourself! Where are you from and what’s your story?
I’m from El Dorado Hills, California but I've lived in four different states: California, Washington, Georgia, and now Arizona. I’m the first in my family to attend a major university straight out of high school, studying marketing and management in the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State in Tempe. I work at Postino Annex in Tempe and joined StringCan Interactive for my first real internship this summer!
How would you describe your personality in 5 words or less?
Driven, adventurous, independent, laid-back and curious.
What could we find you doing outside of the office? What are your passions?
Outside of the office, you can find me in the student section at Sun Devil football games, on the top of Camelback Mountain, soaking in sun at the beach, or wake-boarding across lakes in California.
If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
The first person who came to my mind was Robert Downey Jr. He’s one of my favorite actors and his career skyrocketed after he dug himself out of the hole he created earlier on in life. I would pick him as my mentor because he is a great example of someone who overcame great adversity and turned his life around for the better. I view him as a personification of overcoming obstacles and finding light and success at the end of the tunnel.
If you were reincarnated as an animal/drink/ice cream flavor, what would it be?
Animal: black jaguar
Drink: peanut butter and banana protein shake
Ice cream flavor: cookie dough cake batter
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and what would you do?
I would go to Australia and explore everything the continent has to offer whether it is running around Sydney, petting Kangaroos, or snorkeling through the Great Barrier Reef.
You just won a million dollars! What is the most irresponsible purchase you’re going to make?
I’m going to buy that flight to Australia for my best friend and I, and then spend way too much money there doing every adventurous activity possible. School and jobs can wait, but life won’t!
What’s your favorite YouTube video and why?
Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss – Whiskey Lullaby
This is my favorite YouTube video because it’s also the first one I ever remember watching. My friend showed me the video in 5th grade and this introduced me to my favorite genre of music – country!
On a serious note, what are you most looking forward to learning from StringCan?
From StringCan, I am most looking forward to learning how to apply everything I’ve learned from lectures and textbooks and transferring that to the real world with real clients and projects. I think StringCan is really going to teach me how to develop great digital marketing skills as well as expand and improve my critical and strategic thinking.
What will clients enjoy most about working with you?
I think clients will enjoy working with me as someone who is easy to talk to and will listen to their needs and wants first, rather than having someone throw a bunch of information down their throats.
What do results mean to you?
To me, results mean the visual or tangible product of hard work. Whether results are fitness/health based, completing a project, or closing a deal with a happy customer/client, results are the outcome of a process that took effort and care. However, results don’t mean that all the hard work is over! Results reveal that you are capable of accomplishing great things, and should be motivation to continue and improve even further.
What is your proudest accomplishment and why?
My proudest accomplishment was moving out of state to a four-year university straight out of high school. As mentioned before, being the first in my family to go straight to a large university was big in itself; but being shy and sheltered in high school and then packing up my life to a place where I had no connections – no relatives or anything – was pretty huge and has been an immense growing experience.
