The Most Amazing Smartphone Apps and Mobile Features

Our Digital Scientists are made up of tech-loving, results-oriented, passionate, digital marketing nerds who have an unnatural obsession with all things digital. Most likely seen glued to a screen and spewing new digital marketing trends.

There’s no denying that smartphone apps have changed the way we live our day-to-day lives. The amazing features in the palm of our hand are often taken for granted. With every passing download, these features become engrained into our daily routine and are expected to be a way to, simplify complicated issues or increase value/enjoyment of our interactions with the world.

While we are all blessed to have access to such tools, I wanted to call out special attention to some of the top applications that make our smartphones the magnificent and magical future of technology. Below are just some of my favorite apps worth mentioning.

SoundHound

This is one of my favorite music applications. Not only does it help me track down the songs I enjoy that I simply cannot identify, but its lets me do it in a variety of cool ways. To find a song’s information I can hold my phone up to a speaker, hum (or poorly sing) a song, or I recently found out SoundHound can recognize live music! That’s crazy! Once a song is identified I can listen to the track, download it, share it, check out the lyrics and album art, and much more. Its truly an amazing tool for and music lover.

Uber

Living in Arizona this is not an app I’ve had a chance to use a whole lot, but some of our east coasters in the office swear by it. Uber lets you easily call a cab to your location with a few simple clicks. You can see the nearest cabs, your estimated wait time and even scan your credit card to add your billing info and pay right from your phone. Getting home has never been so easy.

Any.do

Truth be told, I probably have way too many notes apps on my mobile devices, however, Any.do is one of my favorites for keeping track of what I have to do. It's a very visual with an interactive calendar app and daily planner that is essential for keeping my professional and personal life organized. This task manager is unique in it’s simplicity and focus on design. Keep an eye out for the mail and memo apps coming out soon.

The Nest

Once you’ve installed a special home thermostat, this application can be used to control and program your air conditioning in the house. From anywhere in the world you can get online and adjust the temperature of your home. It even learns your heating and cooling patterns over time and will customize when it’s active to your desired temperatures. It’s a bit of an investment up front, but a small price to pay for such amazing technology and futuristic comfort. Not to mention, it’s easier to go green and monitor your monthly bill.

Yahoo Weather

I have to admit, I never thought I would love a weather app as much as I do….it even feels weird saying it now, but once you get a look at how beautifully built this app is, you will file away your stock weather app in your “Unused” folder quicker than an Arizona monsoon can wreck that recent car wash. Hands down this is the best weather application I've ever used. Just look at the ascetically pleasing and functional layout of something that is so commonly overlooked. The smooth transitions and relevant backgrounds based on location, weather and time of day really make it feel like an experience.

What's App

WhatsApp Messenger is a cross-platform mobile messaging app which allows you to exchange messages without having to pay for SMS. I use it when I travel outside the US so that I can keep in touch with my fellow vacationers without being charged. It’s simple, straightforward and easy for anyone to use. The group messaging option is particularly useful while trying to coordinate something while out with a big group.
