With the hustle and bustle of the business world it’s helpful to have a few tricks to pull out of your sleeve now and then. I wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the coolest and most useful apps I’ve found to help you along the way. These apps are all very useful in the business world, and many are equally great in keeping your day to day a little less crazy….some are just plain amazing.
PdaNet (iPhone/BlackBerry/Android | Free/Premium)
Turn your phone into a WiFi router for your laptop and surf the Internet anywhere! Supports USB and Bluetooth Tethering. This is a great alternative to those expensive hotspot services and wireless network dongles. This app really opens up a whole new world of wireless internet.
Evernote(iPhone/BlackBerry/Android | Free/Premium)
Evernote does it all. It allows you to snap a photo, take a screenshot, type in text, or speak your note to capture information on the go. Evernote even makes all your captured information (pictures, notes, etc) searchable. For example, if you take a picture of a business card, Evernote will make all of the text on the card searchable.
Documents To Go(iPhone/BlackBerry/Android | Free/Premium)
Documents To Go is an all-in-one application with support for Microsoft Office, PDF, Apple iWork, and other files. You can view and edit almost any kind of document and email it back out. I often use this app to keep track of my various expenses and ideas throughout the day as well as rehearse and edit PowerPoint presentations on the go. It is great having a digital copy of important documents with me whenever I’m on the go. Much easier than having to always whip out a laptop.
Quicken Online Mobile(iPhone | Free)
This application integrates with your Quicken Online software to track your accounts and your day-to-day spending. It also forecasts future expenses such as rent and bills. Very helpful for budgeting small businesses.
UPS Mobile (iPhone/BlackBerry/Android | Free)
So much more than shipment tracking. UPS On the Go can help you to with quotes anywhere, email and print shipping labels, and find the nearest UPS stores.
Gmote (Android | Free)
Control your PC from your phone. Great for presentation! This is an app I particularly like using to control my computer from the couch when I have it hooked up to my TV. This one is for Android but there are other similar apps for other phone platforms.
Social Media is not only a vital part of your personal life, but for the life of your business too. It’s important to use these apps to stay connected and interacting with friends, business contacts, and customers while on the go. Free Skype to Skype calling even allows me to talk to my brother in China on my Droid without using my minutes and it works great for international or long distance business calls too.
Bump(iPhone/Android | Free)
This app is a personal favorite. Just simply bump phones to share information. You can share Contact Information, Pictures, Calendar Events, Social Media Information, and much more. But, one of the best business features of Bump is the ability to transfer funds from one PayPal account to another. It’s an innovative way to connect and really fun and easy to use!
Stickybits (iPhone/BlackBerry/Android | Free)
Stickybits is a great addition to guerilla marketing plans and genuinely fun to use in your spare time. This app allows you to scan your favorite products with a barcode scanner to see what other people have been saying about that product. It also allows you to attach any information (text, pictures, videos, music, zips, etc) to that product and win points and rewards for doing so. You can even print make your own labels to attach any information to and place them wherever!
